Forest Management for the North

The Forest is located approximately 400 km north of Sault Ste. Marie, and lies within the boundary of the Boreal Forest Region.  Portions of the Nagagami, Hiawatha and Farquhar Townships are within the Clay Belt Region that borders the north section of the Nagagami Forest.  The Forest is characterized by a predominance of black spruce stands on both gently rising uplands and lowland flats.  On the lowland flats black spruce alternates with small sedge fens and sphagnum bogs.  Hardwood or mixed wood stands of trembling aspen, balsam fir and white and black spruce are found on better drained upland sites.  Jack-pine is found on drier sites such as outwash deposits, old beaches and eskers.  White birch is predominately found on sandy soils.
